That puts me into a twist which causes me to imbalance and to move my hands up. I've learned a whole lot, and just yesterday we think we've figured out what's wrong with my transitions! It turns out I can't move my leg backward (particularly my left leg) without tilting my body forward. I discombobulate for just long enough that the responsive horses don't know what to do with me and the beginner schoolies just ignore me or get into the canter despite my attempts. My real downfall is the transition from a trot to a canter. I'm also riding a real horse with my regular instructor once a week for a half hour. I've only just recently started picking up the reins on the simulator. The first 20 minutes is stretching and then we've spent most of the time working on my legs. It's been great fun and I ride the simulator twice a week for an hour at a time. I decided to try it to see whether we could improve my cantering. I found out a month or so ago that there's a horse simulator not too far from me. I'd started to develop a real mental block or the yips about cantering and was becoming more fearful rather than less. It's been really frustrating and it's been a two steps forward, three steps backward at times. I'm an older (later 50s) novice rider trying to become an intermediate and comfortable with the canter.
